Mail - Sending and Receiving

During your time in Korea, you may want to send and receive packages from your home country. This page will provide information on how to do so. For information on mailing to the GICCE, please see GICCE Mailing Address.

Receiving Mail

You have two options for receiving mail in Korea: (1) At your school and (2) At your apartment.

(1) School

If you would like to receive mail at your school, please ask first. Most schools are happy to let you do this, but some are not. This might be a convenient option for some as delivery is most likely to arrive while you are at work.

(2) Apartment

If your delivery arrives while you are not at home, the delivery person will leave it in the lobby of your apartment or outside the door of your apartment. This may sound risky to GETs who come from countries where it isn't safe to do so, but in Korea it is perfectly safe and highly unlikely that anything will go missing.

Giving the Address

For international packages, it is wise to have the address displayed in both Korean and English. Check your school website for your school address and check the back of your ARC for your apartment address. If you are unable to do so yourself, ask your co-teacher or a Korean friend for help to transliterate the address to English.

It is not common for postal/ zip codes to be used within Korea, but these are often required with English addresses. You can use this English
Postal Code Finder to search for the code as it will likely not be displayed in the Korean address.

Give the Korean and English address to the sender so they can print it out and stick it to the package.

Customs

You will be required to pay a customs duty on packages over a certain value. Check out the Customs Website for more information.

Sending Mail

Sending mail abroad is very easy to do once you have located your nearest post office (ìš°ì²´êµ). Most post offices are open from 09.00 to 18.00 on weekdays only. It is always best to confirm the operating hours before going.

Upon arriving at the post office, you will need to fill out a form with details about the package and where it will be sent to. These forms are available in English. You will need to take a ticket and when your ticket number is called, the staff member at the counter will assist you.

There are different options to send mail, such as via air or ship. Each method takes a different amount of time and is charged differently. Make sure you get the best option for you and are not just offered the most expensive option. You will receive a receipt and tracking number after paying. You can use
this site to get tracking information in English.
