After School Programs

After School Programs

Sometimes you may be asked by your school to teach an after school program. This would be a program after you have taught your regular classes and where the format is different from normal classes (i.e. conversation class, teachers' class). The content of these programs can vary greatly from school to school based on the needs of the students and the English program.

If these programs fall within your regular workhours and you are going beyond your allotted 22 teaching hours for the week, then you should be paid 20,000 won per teaching hour in overtime pay as per your contract. Please discuss the overtime pay with your co-teacher as your school (not the GMOE) is responsible for paying out overtime. Overtime is paid separately from your normal wages and often has its own payment schedule -- it can be monthly, per semester,  or at the end of the year. Extra pay will not be noted on the monthly pay stub sent by the GET Program Manager.

In cases where your normal teaching hours amount to fewer than 22 hours, you may be asked to run an "after school program" during your normal work hours. In this case, the program is not overtime and is therefore not paid.

If these programs fall outside of your regular workhours, then pay and hours are negotiable. You may need to sign a separate contract directly with the school.

See Article 7 (Work Hours) of your contract for details about overtime.
